With approximately 600 businesses in town, the City of Walterboro is concerned about the continuing health and welfare of its businesses, as well as attracting new business to enhance the ones already located here.
The development of the City has been blessed by a strong, interested city government. Intelligent ordinances and sensible planning have helped make the City an example for other communities in the Low Country. Day-to-day affairs of the City are administered by a City Manager appointed by the City Council. A committed police force provides 24-hour security for all businesses. The City provides one-stop shopping for our business community. Permits, licenses, and plan reviews are all available through the City.
The City of Walterboro is positioned on the road to everywhere, strategically located on I-95, a short drive from I-26 and I-16.
The City is in close proximity to four major industrial/tourist centers - Charleston (50 miles), Savannah (68 miles), Hilton Head (70 miles) and Columbia (91 miles), two of which (Charleston and Savannah) are major seaports.
Two airports are also close to the City, including Charleston International Airport (50 miles) which supports commercial and passenger flights, as well as Low Country Regional Airport (within the City).
Water and sewer services are provided by the City of Walterboro. Electric services are provided by SCE&G and Coastal Cooperative. Natural Gas services are also provided by SCE&G.
